I:Cube

i-cube-190px2>>Hailed as the “Master of Abstract”, I:Cube, producer and DJ, has over the past ten years played a major role in the French electronic scene. He combines ice and fire in his music, where funky basslines live next to atmospheric pads… He’s the author of many remixes and LP’s as well as three albums on Versatile, “Picnic Attack” (1996), “Adore” (1998), “3″ (2003) and “Live At The Planetarium” (2006). He also forms the duo Chateau Flight with Gilb’R..

From early on Nicolas Chaix aka I:Cube created a universe. He grew up without TV. By adding frequent borrowings from the local disco and attendance to early free parties: you obtain a melting pot of influences, which in turn he has fused into a rich and iconoclastic musical culture. In the early nineties, he starts to experiment with his first sampler (a casio SK-1) and sends his demos to Gilb’R. Gilb’R was starting up his own label, Versatile and was keen on this young Parisien’s sound.

In 1996, I:Cube was the logical first artist to be signed on the label. He released his first maxi Disco Cubizm the same year, featuring a remix by Daft Punk-his first working alliance.

I: Cube’s Disco Cubism (1996) release came at the perfect time to break boundaries and move with the “French touch” wave. His two following EP’s helped create a buzz and the release of his first album

Picnic Attack was welcomed by worldwide music press.

His second album, Adore (1999), marked a turning in I:Cube’s artistic career. From now on, he rooted his open and meditative universe in the public’s mind, avoiding boxing himself into a definitive style. He developed a sound instantly recognizable from the first few notes.

In 2006, I:Cube returned with a new album “Live At the Planetarium”. This album was recorded Live at La Villette Planetarium in June 2005. This performance, marked a return to his first love, with influences from Ambient masters (Biosphere, Future Sound of London or Detroit Escalator…).

Behind the turntable, I:Cube’s DJ set switches the dance floor into a craziness area ! Dropping underground Techno with 80’s Italo sounds, House with old school Hip Hop and Electro with forgotten Disco tracks, people on the Floor never knows what expect !

I:Cube’s music has massively reinvented the dance floor with his latest EPs.

“Prophetization” was one of the 2007 winter hits. And his recent “Supernovac” was perfect fusion between Italo Disco and Techno in the vein of Underground Resistance.

Off the back of this remix, he found himself in demand by such diverse labels as Fool House (french fluokids blogger’s label), Rekids, Simple records and Nublu Records.
